a beautiful mind

this week we watched a movie called a beautiful mind. I thought this was an extremely movie just because it was based off of something that actually happend to someone in real life. The movie really touched me in the sence that there are people with mental problems that are able to admit they have mental problems, and it ultimately ruins their life. Someotimes these people arent able to totally function in society and it ruins their quality of life. This movie really showed me what it would be like to be someone with that condition, and I am very thankful for being as healthy as i possibly could be. feel free to comment your thoughts about this movie as well.

pavlov

This week we learned alot on how learning occurs. I thought that Ivan Pavlov was an extremely smart person. His classical conditioning and experiments that delt with classical conditioning were pretty amazing. I think that he was a psychologist that helped out a large amount in the area of psychology. Afterall we wouldnt be taught about him in school today if he wasnt a very important person would we? I found a video of one of pavlovs experiments online. This particular experiment was the one that pavlov did with the dogs and measuring the amount saliva they produce when presented food. Check it out!

project

Im not exactly sure what i am going to do for the psychology project we were assigned yesterday in class. I was thinking of doing something with my dog but im not sure what would work in a short period of time and what wouldnt. I also have three brothers, but I dont think I would enjoy doing experiments with them because they are extremely annoying, and i do not enjoy being around them. This morning when I woke up I decided I would go on youtube and look for some ideas that were somewhat the same as the video with the air soft gun and the easy button that we watched in class. Im still not exactly sure what I am going to do, but I do know that I have the whole break, and I will more then likely think of something by then.

development of a child

This week we started to do alot of learning on the development of a child, and how children develop as they make their way to adult hood. I find this stuff very interresting because in some ways it can determine what kind of personality the child will have when it gets older, and why we have many of the traits we have as human beings today. I found a video that talks about what kind of things children can easily pick up in the learning stage of their lives.

savant syndrome

Lately in class we have been doing presentations on many of the disease that occur in the human brain, that can be either developmental or they can be obtained through some sort of injury. The most interesting disease that we studied was known as savant syndrome. I thought this disease was amazing because people that have this disease can have the ability to have some sort of special talent. The short video clip that we watched in class was pretty cool. The guy that had the ability to tell what any day of the week it was on that given date and what the weather was like was pretty cool. If i had abilities like that id put them to use every day of my life. I know that people with this ability can be somewhat impaired but there are still people that can survive and live on their own with it. I think that sometimes something like this could be a gift in disguise. After school the day that we studied this syndrome i decided to go home and look at some videos of the syndrome on you tube. Eventually i was able to find some pretty cool ones. Below is a link of one of this videos i found to be very interesting, you may click on it if you like.

future??

I think that what we have been learning in class lately is pretty amazzing.. It is so interresting how much scientists have discovered about the human brain and how it works. It is interresting how almost any action or decision we make can be linked back in some way to our own brains and scientists can explain scientifically why we made that decision or that one action. I thought the test we took in class to figure out whether or not we are left brained or right brained was pretty fun, and i also thought it was somewhat accurate because to me the questions they were asking made sence to how you could relate that to the human brain. It turns out according to the test that i happen to be right brained, i scored a 5.2. I think in some ways that i would have to disagree with that because i am not the most artistic person. On the other hand It does help me to visualize things when i am trying to study but idk if i am more right brained. I sort of feel that i am a little bit of both. I figured i wanted to go online and find some more left brain or right brain tests so that i could figure out if i was really right brained. Out of all of the tests that I have taken, I noticed that this test seemed to be the most accurate out of the 6 tests that I took.

the story of Carl Jung, Alfred Adler, and Karen Horney

Alright well if tried to do the best i can to understand these three people in the past of  psychology so here goes. Carl Jung came up with the theory that we all have a collective unconscious and that it is a kind of understanding that we are all born with. Even though we may never consciously be aware of it, this collective unconscious shows almost all of our experiences and behaviors including the emotional ones that we may have not of thought of about before. Some influences can be seen much easier than others, such as love at first sight. Jung also came up with the idea of archetypes. these are contents of the collective unconscious that is an unlearned tendency to experience things in a certain way. These archetypes are images that we see or think about like religion, happily ever after, and the idea of superheros. These are all sort of personalities that have been known to be more of a generic personality that have been accepted in culture throughout time. This has been seen in culture almost since the beginning of man kind.

Alfred Adler's inferiority complex is the feeling of the lack of worthiness. Adler explained that We all wish to overcome difficulties. Adler explained that one given person cannot be superior until they have gotten over most if not all of the difficulties going on in their lives.  The superiority complex explained that We all strive to reach a goal by the way of which we shall feel strong, superior, and complete. He used  the word superiority complex which is developed when a person tries to take over his or her inferiority complex. And every person had a picture in their head of their perfect self. Adler explained that every person wants to be a leader, and once they have gotten over their inferiority complex they can strive to be a leader in their part of society.

Karen Horney seemed to like to be the type of person that liked to stand out. She often argued that what Sigmund Freud had to say was extremely incorrect, and he felt that Sigmund Freud was extremely irrational. She argued that not all women had this so called "penis envy" and that men to in fact have the same desire for the female genitals. she stated that men saying that women have penis envy is just showing mans power status in the world today.
